Aetrex is a proud sponsor of the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, an organization dedicated to seeing a world without Charcot-Marie-Tooth, or CMT. CMT is the most commonly inherited peripheral neuropathy and is found worldwide among all races and ethnic groups.
CMT patients slowly lose normal use of their extremities as nerves degenerate and muscles weaken because the affected nerves no longer stimulate the muscles. Many patients also have some loss of sensory nerve functions. CMT doesn’t have a cure, although physical therapy, occupational therapy, and moderate physical activity are beneficial. Sometimes CMT is surgically treated.
Because of these symptoms, many CMT patients require supportive and adjustable footwear. Aetrex believes in providing footwear options to the CMT community that fit their physical needs and help them to feel good about their style.
