How have you been utilizing Aetrex’s Albert 2 Pro technology at Pensole Lewis College?
“At the Footwear News CEO Summit in 2022, I had the opportunity to hear Larry Schwartz, CEO of Aetrex, and Jason Israel, SVP of Business Development, Technology, present Aetrex's technology. I immediately saw how the Albert 2 Pro scanner could offer our educators and students a complete scan and detailed data of their feet. Pensole Lewis College, which recently reopened as a design-focused historically Black college, has evolved beyond footwear into various design fields, though footwear remains a core part of our education. Foot scans are invaluable tools for designers like us.”
What is your goal for using the Albert 2 Pro?
“Our goal in using the Albert 2 Pro at Pensole Lewis College is to give students a deeper understanding of foot anatomy and its impact on shoe design. This scanner offers detailed foot data, like differences in foot size or arch height, which is essential for designing shoes that fit properly and perform well, especially for athletes. For designers, these foot scans are invaluable because they provide insights into how to create footwear that fits real people’s feet, making the designs more functional and effective”
Has the Albert 2 Pro scanner enhanced learning and design at Pensole Lewis College?
“The scanner gives us essential data about the foot, which is useful for designing shoes for athletes where a good fit is crucial for performance. Being able to personally experience the scanner helps students gain
a clearer perspective as they begin designing. This real-time data allows them to create shoes that arenot only more comfortable but also personalized for each individual. With this technology, students can produce more innovative and effective shoe designs that cater to the unique needs of each person.”
How has the A2Pro scanner enhanced student understanding?
“The Albert 2 Pro scanner has helped students learn things they didn’t know about their own feet, such as whether one foot is bigger than the other or if they have high or low arches. With this new knowledge,
they can better understand how foot shape affects shoe design. This information becomes the foundation for understanding why shoes are shaped a certain way and why features like laces, straps, and support systems are necessary. The scanner allows students to apply their personal foot data to their designs, making them more knowledgeable and thoughtful as they create shoes”
How has Foot.com contributed to Pensole Lewis College’s education and design initiatives?
“Foot.com has been valuable for PLC’s education and design projects. Students can use this platform to compare foot measurements across different countries and sizes. Foot.com’s detailed data helps students understand how foot size varies around the world and how these differences can influence shoe design. This information can also help reduce sizing problems for customers and minimize product returns, as students can create shoes that fit more accurately based on the data.”
How might Aetrex technology influence the future generation of footwear designers and fit?
“Aetrex’s technology, like the Albert 2 Pro scanner, is shaping the future of footwear design by givingstudents advanced tools to work with. Since PLC trains students to be experts in both design and technology, graduates will be well-prepared to create shoes that fit better and are more comfortable for a wide range of customers. This technology also improves the shopping experience, as in-store foot scanners can help customers find the perfect shoe size quickly and easily. This will likely reduce returns and improve customer satisfaction.”
